Series note
Description of series:(Written Documents) Declarations made under Act No 592 of 1894. Declarations contains the Amount of beer brewed the previous year, capacity of plant, anticipated brewing for present year and in some cases a plan is attached to the declaration showing the outlines of property and buildings occupied, and the locations of the actual brewing plant, Vats, etc.
The records have been arranged in chronological order with the place name (eg. 28/5/1895 Clare)
History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:The Act - No 592 of 1894 - was passed to impose an Excise Duty on beer. The Act was assented to on 25/9/1894, and is referred to in Hansard dated 30/8/1894 S.A. Parliamentary Debates 1894 - Colums 1170, 1171 and 1514. The first schedule ordered that certain books be kept by the Brewer, to be open to inspection by Customs officers at anytime. Compliance with the above schedule to be notified to the Collector of Customs S.A. by the Brewer. The Second Schedule ordered that a Declaration be made by the Brewer to the Collector of Customs as to production, capapcity, etc. The records comprising this set are the Declarations mentioned above (Second Schedule).
