Accession AA1970/559 comprises papers accumulated by Stanley Melbourne Bruce while he was Prime Minister (1923-29), Australian Minister in London (1932-33) and Australian High Commissioner to Britain (1933-45). The accession contains letters, cables, notes of interviews, speeches, reports and memoranda, and includes correspondence exchanged with Prime Minister Joseph Lyons during Bruce's term as High Commissioner.
The papers cover a broad range of topics including Imperial conferences, the Nationalist-Country Party coalition, ministerial appointments, Australian political events, industrial relations, migration, the Ottawa Conference, loan conversions, Imperial trade, Australian industries and exports, civil air communications, Australian diplomatic representation, shipping, League of Nations matters, World War II, post-war reconstruction, Coronation stamps, the Empire Air Mail Scheme, Bruce's resignation from Parliament and his appointment as Australian High Commissioner to Britain.
As no system of arrangement and control was apparent, a single number system (with some secondary parts) has been imposed on the folders by National Archives.
