Series note
This series contains various papers accumulated by Stanley Melbourne Bruce during his parliamentary career, primarily as a Member of Parliament during 1918-19 and as Prime Minister from 1923 to 1929. Included are speeches, memoranda recording interviews with various individuals and organisations, correspondence with the British Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (The Rt Hon LCMS Amery), papers concerning an electoral pact between the Nationalist and Country Parties in 1924-25, correspondence concerning the visit of a British industry delegation to Australia, Act No. 4 of 1929 specifying financial arrangements between the Commonwealth and State parties, proceedings and decisions of the Conference of Commonwealth and State Ministers in 1929, and papers concerning the Imperial Economic Committee and the Empire Marketing Board. Also present is a folder of personal letters with British and Australian colleagues, some concerning the loss of the 1929 general election. A couple of the files contain explanatory notes written by Lord Bruce in the 1950s and 1960s.
