This series commenced in 1968 when the Cabinet Secretariat was separated from the Prime Minister's Department and the Department of the Cabinet Office was created.
The first files created in this series contain procedural papers from Cabinet related files which were transferred from the Prime Minister's Department when the two areas were separated. As the new agency was very small (under 30 staff at peak) it was decided that the Cabinet Registry would also handle the housekeeping matters for the office and these were registered in the same system as the procedural papers.
In 1971 the Prime Minister's Department and the Department of the Cabinet Office were amalgamated into the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. The Cabinet Secretriat (CA 1472) continued to record this series until 1983 and it was decided to register any future files through the Central Registry of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
The files have been added to A463 and A1209.Quantity in agency custody
