Function and purpose
This
collection of various odd files, histories and other historical material,
considered to be of potential value to
researchers
and historians, was accumulated over the years by Army Historical Research Officers
following the 1973 Army and Defence reorganisations from material held by
disbanded or relocating elements; as well as from new material as it was
created.
It was
arranged into chronological sets for control and retrieval purposes by the
National Archives of Australia as follows:

Post World War II Records
From the range of control symbols it is apparent that not
all material was transferred to the National Archives.
System of arrangement and control
A two number system, the first being the ‘set’ and the
second a file number was imposed upon this material by the National Archives of
Australia.

All items in the custody of the National Archives of
Australia as at October 2001 have been entered onto the item level database.
