Function and purpose
This single file appears to be from a correspondence and administrative file series, the rest of which may have been top- numbered into a Prime Minister's Department file series or may no longer be extant. Bound in a blue paper file covering, it resembles the 'General Index' to the series (CRS A6684) although this file does not appear in this index (it may be incomplete). This particular file holds the final report to the Prime Minister by the Minister-in-Charge of the Royal Visit, Sir Charles Marr, and correspondence concerning final reports from the Transport Officer and the Master of Horse. The report deals with the establishment and organisation of the Royal Visit agency in 1934 and with the preparations and arrangements for the Royal Tour.
On examining the index to the series, it is clear that the series consisted of the main administrative files of the Royal Visit organisation dealing with such matters as staffing, invitations, press arrangements, travel arrangements, programs, expenditure, and publicity.
It is possible that other files from this series have been top-numbered into the record series of the Prime Minister's Department or other agencies if they are extant at all. The date range of the series is difficult to determine due to the fact that only one file in the series is known to be extant.
