Summary heading
Function and purpose
This series consists of individual case files which are initially raised in CRS A627 when applications for patents accompanied by complete specifications are lodged.
The files are transferred to the six figure series when the patents and specifications have been examined and accepted. The files are contained in envelopes showing the file number, and generally consist of application form, declaration form, examiner's report and correspondence. (e.g. correspondence between the Patent Office and the applicant or attorney).
Where the application was for a patent covering an invention already patented in a country subscribing to the Convention, the file contains certified copies of the documentation (or equivalent documentation) on which that original grant of patent had been made, and other related correspondence.
The range of numbers from 300 000 - 399 999 was never used.
