These are miscellaneous Commonwealth Investigation Service/ Secret Service/ Commonwealth Police files inherited by ASIO in 1949.  A significant proportion of material from these various security organisations was top-numbered into current ASIO files series (eg CRS A6119, personal files, alpha-numeric series, 1949-, CRS A6122, subject files, multiple number series, 1949-);  however, some of the material was not top-numbered or incorporated into the current file system.

As these files originated from a number of record keeping systems, the control symbols bear little or no relation to each other, therefore, due to this lack of proper arrangement and control it has been decided to impose single numbers on them.

The material covers a wide range of subjects:  expatriate organisations, individuals from varying political and ethnic backgrounds, events such as political rallies;  organisations such as publishing firms and newspapers;  church and religious groups, political and trade groups such as University Labour Club Melbourne and Trades and Labour Council;  canteen orders.
