This series consists of microfilm copies of inactive files which had been examined for retention or destruction, and on which a decision had been made to retain on microfilm. Most of the files formed part of the current related series (CRS A6119 and CRS A6122).  

A few files had been inherited from predecessor agencies but not incorporated into the current series. Records were filmed in
arbitrary order i.e. as reviewed, so do not reflect the
original order of any series.
 
This material is retained by ASIO. Requests for access under s40 of the Archives Act 1983 are submitted to ASIO, who then undertake the research task of identifying if any records belonging to this or related series contain information relevant to the subject of the access request. Material is only transferred to Australian Archives as a result of these requests. A hard copy is provided by ASIO, to which Archives impose a single number.
