Like other photographic series of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Authority, this series documents various projects and activities of the Authority.

The series consists of reels of aerial photographic negatives contained in metal cylinders. The cylinders are numbered by sortie number: A sortie represents one flight for the purposes of aerial photography.

Where cylinder labels have provided information about the sortie, this has been included in the item title (1).

The series is arranged by the sortie number as control symbol.  The sortie number is a single number, with 2 exceptions.  These are sortie 89 & 90 and sortie 129A. There are also several numbers with 2 parts.  For example 118 Part 1 and 118 Part 2.  There are gaps in the control symbol numbering that matches the gaps in the sortie numbering.

The consignment list indicates that 146 cylinders were transferred into the custody of the National Archives of Australia.
