Function and purpose

The files in this series record a wide variety of administrative activities. The files include:

• administrative files relating to the establishment of the National Advisory Committee’s Secretariat
• Files on the administration of the conference run by the National Advisory Committee (NAC); action files on various NAC projects; and
• Information files on particular issues or events

The most recent material deals with the NAC publishing programme in November 1976.

System of arrangement and control

The series is arranged by single number with a ‘GEN’ (General) prefix.   Some older files show a ‘W/GEN’ prefixes – where presumably ‘W’ means ‘Women’ – but it appears this usage was dropped at an early point.  As the operation of the retrieval function requires standard format, all items have been entered in the database showing the ‘GEN’ prefix only , whether or not ‘W/GEN’ appears on the item itself.
