This series consists of bundles of general correspondence, copies of reports, reports, copies of forms, dossiers, history sheets etc, all of which reflect the activities of the former Commonwealth Investigation Service in respect of inquiries into applications for naturalisation, the admission into Australia of friends and relatives, visitors, substitutes for businessmen (Chinese), claims relating to National Security (War Damage and Property) Regulations. In most cases these investigations conform with the terms of the Nationality Act 1920-1936. The series contains policy and precedent, as well as main case files, the majority of which were retained by the agency for future reference.

A new consignment A367/3 was transferred into Archives in September 1988, but as this was later found to contain two different series, the consignment was cancelled. A367/4 was created for the records with "C" prefix, and the remainder was accessioned into A7359/84. It is quite likely that some of the files contained in consignment 84 of CRS A7359 belong to CRS A367 but had never been processed through the appropriate Departmental Registry. It has therefore been entered as a related series. (A list is contained in CRS A7359).
