This series consists of a single volume containing press copies of personal letters sent by the Prime Minister, some signed by the Prime Minister, some by his Secretary. There is an alphabetical index of names at the beginning of the volume, and none of the letters refer to file numbers used in the Prime Ministers Office.
The inwards correspondence relating to this series is not extant, but between Feb. 1904 and April 1906 there is a register and an index for the missing correspondence. This series of copies of outward letters can be used in conjunction with the register and index to partially reconstruct the missing correspondence file series.
In June 1904 a new correspondence file series began (CRS A2) but this deals with more routine work whilst this particular series has personal letters and matters requiring the direct attention of the Prime Minister. At the back of the volume are notes on the
"Interstate Commission 1905" and "Transferred properties" which are of quite a different character to the early pages.
