Series note |
This series consists of Literary Copyright Exhibits from 1870 to 1911 kept in envelopes. [The original envelopes were disintegrating and have been replaced].
Each item has a registration number with a B suffix, which was allocated when the person applied to register the copyright of the work. The content of the exhibits is very varied, ranging from manuscripts of literary works to printed copies of racing club programmes. A small group of sixteen items have a number with a U (Unidentified) suffix, as the actual registration number could not be identified from the Registers. This number was imposed by National Archives for retrieval purposes.
Series A1188 complements this series, as initially the exhibits were glued into a large volume, however as it became too heavy to handle this practice was discontinued and the last item in the volume is 982B, and the items were kept separately in the envelopes.
During a large project undertaken by the Arrangement and Description Sub-section a listing of all items was prepared.
