This volume of press cuttings includes reports on the visit of the Prime Minister, Harold Edward Holt and his wife (Mrs Zara Holt) to the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 4-6 April 1967. The visit, the first by an Australian Prime Minister, aimed to promote Sino-Australian relations and reflected the increasing role of Australia in Asian affairs. Subjects covered in the discussions with President Chiang Kai Shek and other senior officials during the visit included Communist aggression, the Vietnam War, Australia's immigration policy and recognition of Outer Mongolia.
Most of the cuttings are in Mandarin although the volume does include some cuttings from the English-language newspapers China News and China Post. The volume was compiled by Taiwan's Government Information Office and forwarded through diplomatic channels to the Prime Minister's Department. It was transferred to archival custody in December 1967.
