Function and purpose
This series consists of two printed pamphlets of speeches
delivered by Stanley Melbourne Bruce while Prime Minister, both published by
the National Federation. One is a speech
entitled ‘The Dairying Industry, the Commonwealth Government’s Proposals for
Orderly Marketing’ delivered to the Dairying Industry Conference on 18 August
1924. The speech is divided into a
number of sections including ‘Interstate Freedom of Trade’, the ‘Price Fixing
Problem’, the ‘Improvement of Dairy Herds’, ‘Marketing’, ‘Price Fluctuation in
Great Britain’, ‘Government Assistance – Finance and Legislation’ and the
‘Imperial Economic Committee’.
The other pamphlet produced in January 1925 is a speech
entitled ‘Mr Bruce on National Objectives’ delivered at the opening of the
Eighth Annual Conference of the National Federation on 23 September 1924. Bruce discusses the genesis, principles and
objectives of the National Party as well as the pact between the National and
Country Parties.
