Descriptive Note
Function and purpose
This series consists of a single item – a brown Visidex
folder, with a yellow spine, labelled ‘Chronological record of Cabinet and
Committee Meetings from 22 December 1975 to 25 October 1979’. It contains a record
of what cabinet and committee meetings occurred each month. There is a new sheet for each month
(sometimes extending to two or three pages) showing, Date of Meeting, Type of Meeting
(whether a Cabinet, Ministry or Committee meeting) and the duration of the meeting. In the case of a Committee meeting the name of the committee is
specified.
For example the first entry on the sheet headed ‘February
1976’ shows:
Date: ‘ 2 Feb [1976]’ Meeting: ‘Economic Committee’ Duration of Meeting: ‘9.30 am to 1.25 pm’
Though the label on the folder states the contents begin
from 22 December 1975 in fact the first sheet is for the month of November 1975
(First Fraser ministry.) This sheet
shows there were two meetings during this ministry on 12 and 19th November (the latter being in two
session.) These meetings are shown in
this Record as ‘Cabinet’ meetings. In another
context they are recorded as ‘Ministry’ meetings and the decisions from this
meetings have an ‘M’ suffix. Since the whole ministry comprised the cabinet
in the First Fraser ministry, there is no practical difference.
The last sheet is for the month of November 1979 and the
last entry on that sheet relates to a meeting on 25 October 1979
It is not known what record of meetings was kept after this
point.

This series consists of a single item , originally without
formal control.. A single numeric control has been imposed by National Archives
– that is, the folder is now controlled
as item 1. The entries in the folder
are monthly sheets on which there are chronological entries for each meeting
during that month.
