Function and purpose
This series consists of Personal statement by alien
passenger forms, which were filled out by every alien passenger who arrived in
Australia from overseas. These forms have instructions on one side explaining
how the form was to be filled out. The passenger personal details were filled
out on the reverse side of the form. The information collected includes the
passengers names, date and place of birth, personal description, nationality,
their place of resident in country of origin and intended place of residence
whilst in Australia and the intended duration of their stay. The application
also records details of any family that was accompanying the applicant. The
means of travel is listed on the application stating the name of the ship or
flight number and the date of arrival in Australia and where they disembarked
or landed.
System of arrangement and control
A multiple number system was imposed on this series at item
level when work was commenced on it in November 2002. The first number in the
sequence represents the country (nationality) of the person/s on the
application form. This list is below. The second number was imposed on each
item consecutively after they were arranged in alphabetical order according to
surname.

Series history
This series was originally transferred into archival custody
as CP181/1/1. Work conducted by the National Archives of Australia in 2002
resulted in the bundles the series was transferred in as, being broken into
individual items to facilitate easier retrieval of these items. This series was
converted to CRS A12508 (Transfer Job No. 2002/5147625).
