Function and purpose
This series contains ships inward passenger manifests (Form
M308) for the period 1965 – 1974. This form, which lists the number and names of
persons entering Australia by ship, was submitted once a vessel arrived in
Australia. Separate M308 forms were completed for each port where passengers
from a particular voyage were disembarked. The information was collected for
both immigration and statistical purposes.

Using the series
The lists are bundled together for a particular period of
time (usually a week). They are not listed individually by ship. Furthermore,
all the various port disembarkation lists for a particular voyage will be filed
in the bundle that covers the date of arrival at the first port of call.
For example, The Angelina Lauro disembarked passengers at
Sydney on 19 March 1967. Since however, that ship first arrived in Fremantle on
13 March, the relevant list will be contained in item 137 - Ships Inwards
Passenger Manifests - Disembarking: circa 11 - 14 March 1967.

Series history
Arrangement and Description work was done on this series in
January – February 2006. Prior to this, records had been controlled at the box
level. In order to properly describe the series, a single number was imposed on
each bundle of records. Titles give the dates of disembarkation covered by each
item in the series.
