Series note

Function and purpose

This series consists of files of correspondence relating to projects undertaken or proposed for public works. They include hospitals, post offices, laying of telegraph lines, railways and other projects for public use. During the world wars some related to defence works, mainly related to shipping.

Also in this series there are files of an administrative nature concerning insurance, staffing, salaries, rents and accommodation.

This series is controlled by an annual single number system.

All items in this series as at November 2001 have been entered onto the National Archives of Australia item level database.

Series history

Transferred to archival custody by the CA 692, Department of the House of Representatives on 7 February 1978 as AA1978/55. See archives file A1973/117 in series CRS A750. Material was converted to the present series during investigation by the Collection Review project.
