PAPER FILES AND DOCUMENTS
Series note
Registered correspondence, memoranda, reports and associated
papers, maps and plans assembled in subject files, some with linen jackets but most unjacketed. Each incoming paper has been stamped with 'Commonwealth Home Affairs Fed. Cap.' In 1910-1911 the letter 'H' was added. The paper was allocated a reference number from a sequence re-commencing at no.1 in January each year. Where papers on the same subject have been filed together, the connections ("previous paper no", "subsequent paper no." or "top number" havebeen shown to the left and right of the stamp respectively.
The series documents the administration of the Territory for the Seat of Government (including Jervis Bay) and the design, planning, naming and construction of the Federal Capital; from 1913, specific lands and works matters are dealt with in the separate FCL (CRS A192) and FCW (CRS A199) series. A number of letters from Walter Burley Griffin, Director of Design and Construction, are included. The series is incomplete, owing to culling at an unknown date and top-numbering into subsequent series e.g. CRS A192, CRS A199 etc.
