This series consists of notebooks used by Justice Sir Edmund Barton in chambers during cases heard in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
The notebooks contain annotations made by the Justice in relation to a particular case being heard. Some of the notes are quite detailed while others are somewhat sketchy. In each instance, reference is made to the plaintiff and defendant as well as legal representatives.
It appears that these notes were taken by the Justice to assist judgement and often refer to testimony given as well as observations made during proceedings.
There are no references made to the case number so it may be necessary to peruse either The South Australian Full Court Book (A10149), the Victorian Full Court Book (A10220) or the New South Wales Full Court Book (A10232) around the date/s of the notebooks entry to verify the case number before searching for the records of the case.
As at 15 Jan 1997 only notebook 2 is extant, the whereabouts of any previous or subsequent notebooks is not known. |
