This series consists of a notebook used by various associates of Justice Sir Edmund Barton during cases heard in Sydney and Melbourne.
The notebook is a small 'exercise' book with consecutively numbered pages. In each case, reference is made to the plaintiff and defendant as well as legal representatives. It appears that these notes were taken by the associate to assist the Justice with the case and often refer to testimony given as well as observations made during proceedings.
There are no references made to the case number so it may be necessary to peruse either the Victorian Full Court Book (A10220) or the New South Wales Full Book (A10232) around the date/s of the notebook entry to verify the case number before searching for the records of the case.
As at 15 Jan 1997, only one notebook is extant. The whereabouts of any previous or subsequent notebooks is not known.
