Some 55% of the 840 men working for the first Australian company to win a major contract at the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric and Irrigation Scheme are migrants from Britain and Europe. Two workers begin removing concrete framework from a newly lined section of the Tooma tunnel. Watching them are Italian born superintendent Paul Cellitti, 33 (wearing check shirt) and tunnel walker Pave Galelejevs, 36, who was born in Latvia.
