The main content of this file was created between 1915 and 1921. At a later time a number of folios were added to the file. These folios included requests for reissue of medals and newspaper clippings relating to James Martin’ war service.

In 2003 a decision was taken to remove all post 1970 folios from files in the series B2455 as they were not considered to be part of the original service file. These folios were stored separately and a sentencing project was later begun on them. This project considered the value of the folios and decided whether they would be retained as National Archive or not. The controlling agency concurred with the findings of the project and a portion of the folios were disposed of.

Two newspaper clippings that had been added to this service file in the late 1980s were removed from the file. These newspaper clippings were not retained and were disposed of.
